Naked Scripture Friday: Kissing

From the first kiss recorded in Genesis to the kiss we’re supposed to give one another, here’s the naked truth from the Bible about kissing. You be the judge, but it seems most of these kisses are betrayals and the rest accompanied by weeping. Not many counter examples here:

Greet one another with a holy kiss...

“So Jacob went near to Isaac his father and he felt him and said, ‘The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are of Esau.’ And he did not recognize him because his hands were hairy like Esau’s hands, so he blessed him. Then he said, ‘Are you really my son, Esau?’ He said, ‘I am.’ He said, ‘Bring it near to me and I will eat of my son’s game, so that my soul may bless you.’ So he brought it near to him and he ate, and he brought him wine and he drank. Then his father Isaac said to him, ‘Come near now and kiss me, my son.’ And he came near and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his clothing…” Genesis 27:22-27

“Then Joab said to Amasa, ‘Are you in health, my brother?’ and Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him. But Amasa did not notice the sword that was in Joab’s hand. And he struck him with it in the stomach and his entrails poured out on the ground; and he did not strike him again. Thus he died.” II Samuel 20:9-10
